After School Guide to the SNAP-Ed Program
In California, local health departments are receiving federal funding for nutrition education targeted at low-income people. It comes from the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program (SNAP-Ed) through the CA Department of Public Health’s Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention (NEOP) Branch. These local health departments are working with afterschool programs and schools to increase access to healthy foods, increase consumption of healthy foods and water, decrease consumption of unhealthy foods, and increase physical activity opportunities throughout the day. The attached guide is designed to help your afterschool program figure out how to partner with your local health department. The time is now!! The guide has tips, local contact information, and more information about this potential opportunity for additional resources.
