CDE Closing the Achievement Gap Website Available

This Web site is part of the statewide initiative to close the achievement gap. Aimed at supporting the work of policymakers, educators, and interested community members, it is the electronic hub for helpful information, research, and success stories about efforts to close the gap in California. The California Department of Education, its P-16 Council, and WestEd are partnering on this initiative with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Healthy Behaviors Initiative and Learning Centers

The Center for Collaborative Solutions (CCS), publisher of "Developing Exemplary Practices in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Food Security in Afterschool Programs" has created 17 Healthy Behaviors Learning Centers at 10 after school programs across the state. These centers volunteer to coach other publicly funded after school programs to improve nutrition and physical activity practices. Senator Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) participated in the rollout of the learning centers and honored the role after school programs can play in addressing childhood obesity.

Lessons From the CORAL Inititative

Public Private Ventures recently released a series of reports based on an eight year research and evaluation study of the Communities Organizing Resources to Advance Learning (CORAL) Initiative funded by the James Irvine Foundation.
