The Quality Standards for Expanded Learning in California
The purpose of the Quality Standards is to describe high levels of “Quality” of a program at the programmatic, staff, and participant levels. The quality standards are not intended to serve as a compliance tool, but as the following:
Updated Template for LCAP is Now Available
The California Department of Education provides regular updates regarding the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) through the LCFF web page and listserv. Recently, updates have been posted to the web page regarding the adoption of the LCAP template by the State Board of Education (SBE) as part of the Permanent Regulations. For more information, subscribe to the LCFF listserv by sending a “blank” message to: join-LCFF-list@mlist.cde.ca.gov and check out the CDE Local Control Funding Formula web page.
NASBE Report: Summer Learning: Accelerating Student Success
The National Association of State Boards of Education’s recent report called Summer Learning: Accelerating Student Success outlines how state leaders can play an integral role in promoting summer learning within education policy. Highlighting the significant impact that summer learning programs can have on academic success, this report emphasizes how the state can help improve the quality of Summer Learning programs in order to support positive youth development. Outlining a new vision for summer programs, the article identifies specific strategies programs should embrace including revising the transitional summer school model, providing professional development, and strengthening and expanding partnerships.
