CFPA: Breakfast After the Bell Update

Post

On June 27, 2016, Governor Jerry Brown signed the state budget for the 2016-17 fiscal year, containing a win for school breakfast. The education omnibus trailer bill provides an additional $2 million dollars in grant funds for public schools that want to startup or expand after-the-bell breakfast programs. The funds are available over a two-year period (school years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019) and will improve access to school breakfast on hundreds of campuses for tens of thousands of low-income students. Improved access to school breakfast means Californian kids will be better prepared to learn, grow and achieve their fullest potential. With the additional grant funds now secure, California Food Policy Advocates will be working with state and local partners, including the California Department of Education, to maximize the reach and positive impact of the after-the bell breakfast grants.
