Signed California Budget 2009-2010
Does not Impact State Funded After School Programs

Post

Governor Schwarzenegger signed Senate Bill 1 Third Extraordinary Session, approving California’s fiscal year 2009-10 budget.  The budget contained significant cuts to Proposition 98 education funding and proposes other cuts through ballot initiatives.  Proposition 49 after school funds were not reduced in the current budget. Because Proposition 49 funds are voter approved, it would take a ballot initiative to reduce After School Education and Safety (ASES) funds.  The currently approved budget, however, does place three propositions on the May 16, 2009 ballot that include reductions to previously approved voter initiatives (Proposition 98, Proposition 10, Proposition 63).  For fiscal year 2009-10, proposition 49 after school funding remains in tact.
