CA Afterschool & Summer Challenge 2022
March 15- 16, 2022
The 18th annual California Afterschool & Summer Challenge - Virtual Edition, educates and empowers professionals, youth, and families to engage in grassroots advocacy. In addition to helping advance the out-of-school time field, this advocacy experience helps show young people and emerging leaders how to speak out and use their voices to create change.

The Challenge Experience
- Gain tools and receive training designed for new, emerging, and experienced advocates, led by policy experts, community leaders and youth
- Raise your voice with hundreds of advocates across the state
- Rally virtually, hearing from legislative champions, field leaders, family members and youth
- Share your stories and expertise with legislators to make the case for out-of-school time
- Connect with advocates from your community to build a local base and coordinate future efforts
Schedule
March 15th: 9:30am-2:30pm
9:30-10:45am | Welcome and Plenary
10:45-11am | Break
11am-12:30pm | Civic engagement training: emerging, returning, experienced tracks
12:30-1pm | Lunch on your own
1-2:30pm | Team meetings
March 16th: 10am-4pm
Legislative visits
Note: Participants will not be in legislative visits from 10am – 4pm, but we are asking attendees to hold this block of time while we schedule meetings.
Become a Team Leader
Team Leaders are an integral component to the success of CalSAC’s Challenge! As a Team Leader, you will lead of group of afterschool and school-age care professionals, parents, and youth with varying levels of advocacy experience. Starting with the 2021 Challenge, the Team Leader’s role has changed: please review Team Leader Responsibilities for a full explanation of responsibilities.

- Tuesday, March 8, 10am-12:30pm
