School Mental Health Resources & Updates California SBHA
DHCS has now updated guidance to counties and community-based agencies which clarifies the eligibility criteria for Medi-Cal specialty mental health services for beneficiaries 21 years and younger. The guidance expands eligibility for specialty mental health services (through county mental health plans) to children and youth with experiences of trauma, homelessness, juvenile justice involvement, or child welfare involvement who may not have a mental health diagnosis yet. This guidance will ensure that children and youth can access much-needed behavioral health services before they are in crisis.
The state released a new report in January that provides data and stakeholder perspectives on the continuum of behavioral health services available for California residents. The report recognizes that schools are a “vital resource for preventive and early identification purposes.”
Naloxone Distribution Project
Schools and school-based health centers can obtain free Naloxone through the state Naloxone Distribution Project (NDP) that aims to combat opioid overdose deaths. More information in the Naloxone Pod.
