The Beginning of the Legislative Season!
January 22, 2025
In some good news this January, we were appreciative to see that the Governor’s Budget Summary, which was released on January 10, 2025, and reminded us that the Governor is following up with his dedication to serving our students and families in California by protecting ELO-P with a $435 million increase.
Last year showed us that our legislature and governor will protect students’ interests even in a tough budget year. This year, the governor’s proposed budget is balanced. If you’d like more details about the fund maneuvers and overall strategies for getting us here, look at Ed100’s explanation.
However, this is just the beginning of our legislative process, and we will have more detailed information with upcoming budget trailer bills and discussions during legislative committee hearings. Afterward, we’ll see a revised budget during the May Revise, and the final budget will be signed in June.

Governor Newsom’s Budget Proposal FY 25-26
January 10, 2025
This year, the governor’s budget proposal continued to show his dedication to prioritizing education and our expanded learning field, even in difficult times. Last year, we had a tough budget year, and we expected the same for this year. However, it looks like the budget is balanced, thanks to all the fund maneuvering and higher-than-expected tax revenues. This, however, is the very beginning of the legislative season, and this budget will change and transform as we go through our legislative process.
